Visa Requirements & Health Insurance

Visa Requirements & Health Insurance

Visa Requirements  (NON-EU residents only)

International students (those residing outside the EU) who wish to study in Poland need a temporary student visa. In many cases, the application must be submitted to the Embassy or Consulate of Poland in the student's home country; check with your local Polish Embassy or Consulate before you leave home! It is also necessary for all students to register at the foreign police department in Warsaw after arrival in Poland to obtain a temporary residence permit.

• EU residents do not need a visa or temporary residence permit. Visit the Polish Embassy or Consulates (Polish Missions Abroad) for more information.

Health insurance, personal accident coverage and liability insurances are all required for the whole period of study in Poland. Proof of the insurance is necessary for registration at SGGW. IMS will help students find  insurance, either in their home country or in Poland. More information can be obtained from the Polish Mission in your country.

Health Insurance

International students must prove that they have adequate health insurance coverage within the Polish Republic in order to obtain a temporary residency permit and be admitted to SGGW. Medical insurance is mandatory; without this, entry to the university may be refused.
• EU residents must  obtain a general health insurance policy as well. For applicants from the European Union (EU), European Economic Area (EEA) and Switzerland: Free or reduced-cost vital treatment is available on production of a valid European Health Insurance Card (EHIC). The EHIC provides access to state-provided medical treatment only and the plan  gives no entitlement to medical repatriation costs, nor does it cover ongoing illnesses of a non-urgent nature.Note that the EHIC replaces the Form E111, which is no longer valid.

Medical care

Please always check for current information about regulations of medical care in Poland at the Polish Embassy/Consulate in your home country or on the web page of the Polish Ministry for Foreign Affairs: http://www.msz.gov.pl and on the web page of the National Health Fund (Narodowy Fundusz Zdrowia):  http://www.nfz.gov.pl/new.
We recommend obtaining medical support through well-renowned private clinics. Please check that your insurance provider covers invoices from private clinics abroad.
