Faculty of Veterinary Medicine- History of the FacultyUntil the first veterinary school was established in Lyon (1762), most European countries held veterinary subject lectures at the medical schools. Thus, the medical students received some background in animal anatomy, physiology, surgery, and diseases as well, and thus, could treat both humans and domestic animals in their medical practice.
Veterinary Universities appeared in the late 18th century, again in marriage with human medicine with common lecturers and laboratories especially for teaching pre-clinical subjects like anatomy, physiology, and pharmacology. In Poland, the first training and education in the veterinary profession started in 1824, when the first veterinary school was opened in Buraków, near Warsaw. It was part of the Institute of Agronomy in Marymont. The Faculty of Veterinary Medicine was established in 1927 and since that time it has been providing education, research and development, veterinary services and many other activities. At present, the Faculty manages 2 buildings for basic and preclinical sciences, and two modern and well equipped clinics: A Clinic for Small Animals and Equines. Cost of LivingSince its introduction to the European Union in 2004, Poland has been undergoing significant economic reform. The result is that the quality of life is rising while prices remain rather stable. The cost of living in Warsaw is not so expensive by European standards. Students can enjoy a comfortable life at a very modest price.
*These expenses are based on past average monthly expenses that students incurred for one academic year. These expenses exclude, among others, personal needs, university admission fees, flights, visas, insurance.
