Sciences studies and Clinical Pathways leading to the Doctor of Medicine (M.D.) degree. The first two years are dedicated to completing the Basic Sciences at the UHSA campus in Antigua. Upon completion of the Basic Sciences, students proceed to complete the Clinical Sciences at affiliated hospitals in the United States, Puerto Rico, Canada, and the United Kingdom.
During the four semesters of Basic Sciences (2 years), students are exposed to patient care at Antigua's hospital, Mount St.John's Medical Center, in addition to various health clinics in Antigua while simultaneously completing coursework. The Basic Sciences portion of the curriculum is an in-depth, hands-on approach to learning medicine. Students will obtain the necessary knowledge and experience to prepare for hospital rotations. The final semester of Basic Sciences is designed to prepare the student in the USMLE Step I exam and Clinical Sciences.
Clinical Sciences are dedicated to completing core and elective clinical rotations. Students fulfill the Clinical Sciences portion of the program at UHSA's affiliated hospitals in the United States, Puerto Rico, Canada, and the United Kingdom.
Once students advance to the clinical portion of the medical program, students are required to complete 2-years of Core and Elective rotations at our affiliated hospitals. Core rotations are designed to provide students with a foundation for understanding the basic areas of medical practice.
Biomedical Sciences leading to an MD
The School of Medicine and London Metropolitan University offer a combined Biomedical Sciences pathway to MD Program that enables qualified individuals to complete requirements of both the B.S. in Biomedical Sciences and Doctor of Medicine (M.D.) degrees. The program enables students to be accepted to both institutions through a single joint admission process.
Admission to the program is limited to individuals who are initiating full-time undergraduate study in Biomedical Sciences and also display maturity, motivation, and intellectual capacity necessary for the combined program.
Awarding of the M.D. degree is contingent upon successful completion of both the prescribed Biomedical Sciences undergraduate and Medical School curriculum requirements.
