Admission Requirements

To be considered for admission to the 6 year medical degree programme (MD) at the University of Milan, an applicant must have successfully completed the following:

1) Meet the general educational requirements for medical school outlined on the Italian Higher Education website -  http://www.study-in-italy.it/studying/eu-nationals.html. It is important to emphasize that as a general condition to be admitted a student must satisfy the requirements to be admitted to University education in the student's home country. Fluency in Italian is NOT mandatory. Enrolment with Italian universities is regulated by the Ministry of University and Research (MIUR) in accordance with the Ministry of the Interior and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Bilateral agreements and special conventions exist with various countries, but as a general rule, applicants must have studied for at least 12 years before applying for a university course.Those from countries where admission to university is possible after only 10 or 11 years of study must prove that they have attended the local university and passed all necessary examinations for 2 years or 1 year, so as to reach a total of 12 years of study.

2) A passing grade on the University entrance exam. The University entrance exam is is IMAT format and covers topics in biology, chemistry, physics, mathematics, general culture and reasoning. For more information about the exam, click here.
3) The knowledge of English is required. The University of Milan reserves the right to evaluate the level of fluency.

Applicants with a Bachelor's Degree

A student with an International Baccalaureate can be accepted only if the secondary school is on the following list:
http://www.studiare-in-italia.it/studentistranieri/moduli/allegato2.pdf. Read section "Baccellierato Internazionale" on pages 3-9.

The student can apply for a formal recognition of courses taken only once the student passes the entrance exam and is admitted to the University. The ECTS will be evaluated and their correspondence with Italian programmes will be evaluated by a commission. It is important to note that students cannot skip a year.
