AUSOM is a U.S. based medical program designed for students who want to pursue a career in medicine in the United States.  Our attractive low student / teacher ratio allows for personalized instruction  rarely found in other medical school programs. AUSOM's faculty includes esteemed professors and physicians from top teaching medicals school and institutions from all over the world.  Avalon University also provides highly sought after clinical rotations in U.S. teaching hospitals.  It is during these clinical rotations students work directly with physicians and hospital staff to become familiar with hospital practices and settings.  Students become comfortable in taking histories and conducting physical examinations, case presentations, laboratory analysis, and attending workshops, conferences and grand rounds.  Hands-on experience provides students the opportunity to complement theoretical knowledge with live patient presentations.  The clinical medicine program at AUSOM provides a competitive edge to ensure that students are prepared for residency programs.

AUSOM is one of the first Caribbean medical schools to incorporate the most cutting edge technology available in medical school instruction: plastinated human organs. These specimens are actual human organs which are preserved through a process called plastination. This process increases specimen durability, allowing students to accurately study anatomical concepts without exposure to toxic chemicals.

Registration Fee: $900 nonrefundable one-time + $1,000 seat deposit fee**
Graduation Fee:   $500 one-time
Application Fee :  $50 one-time
Financial Aid Processing: $100 per disbursement
Transcript Request: $10 per request
Late Tuition Payment Fee: $200 (applied when past due date)
Payment due date is 1 week before the start of each semester.
Late Registration Fee: $200 (applied only when past due date)
Premed per Credit Hour Fee: $250 (applied to students taking less than 11 credit hours per semester)
Basic Sciences per Credit Hour Fee: $350 (applied to students taking less than 11 credit hours per semester)
Loan Processing Fee: $100 per semester
Health Insurance*** Curaçao Immigration requires students to have health insurance

*Clinical Medicine Transitional Semester (5th semester)

This semester will be done in the US immediately following completion of the basic medical sciences (MD Program).

**Seat Deposit Fee
There is a nonrefundable $1,000 seat deposit fee which is applied towards the first semester's tuition.

***Health Insurance
This health insurance only applies to you if you are going to be a student on the island of Curaçao (not if you are in the U.S. engaged in clinical clerkships).

****There is an additional $1200 fee per semester if you have not passed the United States Medical Licensing Exam (USMLE) Step 1 Exam

Average Cost of Living per Month
Cost of living varies from student to student, but on average you will need to budget about $700.00 US to $1500.00 US per month.

Roommates, conserving utilities, cooking at home, and budgeting daily spending will help bring these costs down. Every student has different needs, so these amounts are only meant as average ranges. The average cost of books is around $600.00 per semester.

Transportation costs vary. The island is small, so nothing is far from the campus. Students can choose to walk, bike, car pool, use communal taxis, or even to rent or buy a car.
